Cheap but effective wrist cuffs

Here’s a low cost but very effective set of wrist cuffs I made. For $2 in the leather craft department at Hobby Lobby I got two wrist straps with snaps at the ends. I punched holes on either side of the snap, and to secure it after putting it on my wrist I thread a plastic zip tie through the holes, encasing the snap, then pull it snug. To make the cuff more useful I secured a heavy duty picture frame hook using two rivets (also from Hobby Lobby). When installing the rivets you should add a flat washer on the inside or they may pull through with vigorous play. For more comfort I put part of a fake wool steering wheel cover on it. The extra nylon strap with rings at both ends make it much easier to manipulate a key padlock than if the lock were attached directly to the wrist cuff. This also makes it possible to use a wrist spreader bar safely, so long as you don’t want it extra tight against the wrists.
