You need to not put spaces in the file name and you need to
use a file format other than bmp. The file is way too big.

Back to the device itself...
It's pretty neat and simple. My only slight gripe is that I might be able / tempted to unscrew the cap. I guess there are ways round this. Adding a locking pin through the sides of the cap / tube or feeding the rope / chain through another smaller pipe so my hand can't reach the cap.
I'm guessing you can make these things out of standard 32mm waste pipe and cap ends.

It's water. It dries off. No harm has come to my bedroom carpet yet.

You have to remember if you screw it on tight with both hands and tie yourself up so you only have one hand. trying to unscrew something with one hand thats been tightened with both hands is almost impossible to get undone. I haven't been able to.

Keyless Release

Check out the above links. They are kids' toys but could work for our purposes.

Also, has everyone seen the purpose built ice-container with eye bolts?:

http://www.extremerestraints.com/self-b ... _1457.html

It looks very well machined judging by the picture, but $194???? Come on!

I should think that one of us ought to be able to build something just as reliable and effective for a lot less money.

Any takers?

I have seen that last one before, I think from a link from this site, it is perfect but expensive.

But, if it will solve all your time lock problems, and is nearly guaranteed not to fail, it is worth it?

To all:

I am trying to duplicate this device:

http://www.extremerestraints.com/self-b ... _1457.html

I want to do it cheaply.
So far, I have a 3/4" x 3" pvc pipe nipple and two, 3/4" threaded caps as well as two, 1/4" x 1-1/4" cotter pins.

As it stands now, I drilled 7/32" holes in the pvc caps and pushed the cotter pins into the holes and then screwed the caps onto each end of the nipple. The only problem is that the water leaks out of the holes in the caps. SO, I need a way to seal the holes in the caps while still being able to remove at least one cotter pin in order to fill the pipe with water. And also, of course you have to slide at least one cotter pin out to get free.

I will probably hit Home Depot this weekend and try to find rubber grommets to seal the caps. Or, maybe I will try screw eyes.

Anyway, does anyone have a better idea? If a reliable method for getting the water in without it leaking out before it can be put in the freezer can be found, this is a really cheap alternative to the expensive device shown in the url above.

Obviously, once the seal around the cotter pin or screw-eye is devised succesfully, the caps themselves could be glued in place to prevent the bindee from simply unscrewing them.

Anyway, if anyone can come up with a cheap solution to sealing the caps that doesn't require them to be laboriously sealed every time it's used, I would like to hear it.

I like to use a clock to do my timed release, I use all steel restraints so the release is critical, but I always use ice release as a backup, and its saved my ass more than once.
