I like this idea but I have never seen such a lock. Find one and I will seriously consider buying it.

It should naturally be used in combination with one or more backup releases. Putting your life in the â€

Sorry to dampen the spirits here but two words...

BLUE SCREEN.

Lol, make sure you have a safety mechanism in place.

I work in IT and there is no way I'd trust something like that to a computer! It's just a bad idea because there are way too many bad things that can happen to a computer, even when it's idle.

I work in embedded computer design, including working on saftly system, fire alarm system etc.

a nomal computer or software you could not trust to do this but if it is design to the job, if some thing goes wrong then i can tell working out want it is going to do.

you could attempt to modify a remote controlled padlock

http://www.gizmodo.com/gadgets/gadgets/ ... 128210.php

it also has a key so theres another backup

only other idea i have is some kinda solinoid with a transmitter/receiver

for computer controlled all would require some knowledge of programming as you would have to program drivers software ect

aswell as some component knowledge so yeah pain in the butt

This is interesting, I wonder if it can be used for selfbondage somehow. (Always use backup releases!)
It can be bought here:

I could see it working in a sub/dom scene, I have yet to work out a selfbondage application though, its an interesting concept though!

alright, i'll tell u how to do it,

when u use the wireless padlock, take the remote and tape it to a table so that it is pointed at the lock. then take two sections of 1x1 wood and afix them to a foot so it is free standing. next use another peice of wood at the top that will fall down like an arm with a point so that it will push the button. then use an ice release method to hold the arm up untill the ice melts .

u might need to weigh the arm down a little bit to ensure that it will depress the button but be carful not to weigh it down to much or u will break the remote.

ues the key on another release as a back-up.

maby some one can make a picture if this cause i can't figure out how to do it
Bound in my room, waiting for that stupid key.

Just a comment about an electronic lock.
The lock should use electricty to keep itself locked so if power goes off the lock opens. Im sure if you lived in Buffalo a couple weeks ago this would have been helpful. As far as computer controlled, "curious_sb" has the right thought.... You never know when The Blue Screen of Death will strike.

There is a timer controlled padlock made by Cyberlock, but it's VERY expensive and requires a special control box to set the key/lock. Far too expensive for most people.

I used "computer padlock" many times. I made a program, which opens DVD drive after time. I put key on string and this string I jam in closed DVD.

BUT! I never used it without alternative ice lock, set up on little longer time!!

And althoug WinXP doesn't have "blue death", safety is safety.

Just put the padlock in series with another lock with a safety release mechanism...

Then blue screen of death won't cause your death...

A truly brilliant idea that could work with any type of release, electronic or otherwise.

Great Idea. Thanks.
