I have made my own icelock, been testing it and it lasts
2 3/4 hours, going to test again tomorrow with a little less water
Is another ice lock enough of a backup release ?

Ice is cool..........and reliable.
Maybe post a picture or diagram of your design? As long as everything slides in and out when it is dry, then it should be an infallible release. Unless you live in a climate of freezing.

plastic pipe from plumbing
small plastic container
ptfe tape plumbers use to stop leaks
6 mm bolt and nut
10 mm diameter bar I had knocking around could be changed for smooth bolt, pencil etc..

anchor end
small container wrapped in ptfe tape to make it a tight fit in tube
drill hole for bolt
put bolt through and do up

other end (ice release part)
drill hole for bar to stop ice pulling out
push bar in, I will duck tape or glue it in place
cut off piece of electrical wire or rope

freeze and test
froze overnight
testing today with slighlty less water, started at 9.20 am (will edit how long it takes)

Good design and the right times to get bored and ask yourself: "What have I done?"

Thanks, I'm so looking forward to it.
I have made a second one based on same design, for the backup.

If your room still warm, that lock will works good. If you have a problems with house heating or something break window when street is freezed - ice can not melt.
