I was asked how the chain fits between the wood blocks and the magnet and bracket. It depends on the size of chain of course. But here is a picture showing how it works.

Is hooking on the nail easy?
I would crimp the iron of the bar like an S-bend (the chain comes farthest from the bar in the bend) so that once behind the magnet, rotating the bar through 90° makes it easier to lift the chain higher than the cut nail.
