I finally decided to watch "Mr. Sardonicus" (1961) after hearing good things. (Rather, finding bits and pieces of it through other STEG searches) Nice background bondage work, with an ever present threat of torment. Medieval stuff, takes place in an old, out of the way castle. Creepy servant, pretty ladies, complete with a choice at the end of the movie to let Sardonicus go, or continue to punish him for all of his misdeeds.

"Black Snake Moan" (2006) is a possibility. Haven't heard good things about it, though, but reading the summary might lead to a mental orgasm.
"Ruthless People" (1986) wasn't terrible, but definitely more in the light hearted comedy genre.

Two films with very nice steel collar shots, though brief, are THE FLAME AND THE ARROW (Virginia Mayo) and LADY IN THE IRON MASK (Patricia Medina.)

Of course there are the sword-and-sandal pictures, but the shackles are either too oversized to be taken seriously, or too loose-fitting to be effective. (Or both)

Yesterday I saw a jewelry store in the shopping center with the name "Histoire d'Or". It automatically reminded me of "Histoire d'O", the French name for "The Story of O" and the first bondage film I went to see in the cinema. Sometimes I watch this movie again while tied up.

Or is it because of the lovely and irresistible Dana Delany?

"Ruthless People" (1986) Offering exercise advice tonight made me think of it. Bette Midler gets kidnapped and held in a basement by a chain. She decides to lose weight by riding a stationary bike, and even jumping rope using the chain. Made me laugh more than interested my kinky side, but it still kind of fits this thread.
Actually,I already mentioned "Ruthless People", and even admitted it was more of a comedy than anything else. Comedy to most, but some of us may see it a different way.

This is an excellent example of the videos I enjoy:
https://youtu.be/v5SpPXMmHJE?si=h3bWsRV8Hnal4l2G
This is an Arduino tutorial explaining how to make the Arduino do something every second. From there, I count 60 of those to count a minute. Repeat for hours.

Nothing says Self-Bondage like convincing an 8 bit computer processor to delay bondage release. Actually watching the above video to the end will probably be more difficult than watching ice melt to most of you.

Mostly these days I go for a nice, dreamy ambient playlist as the background to my s/b time, but on occasion there's nothing quite like being tied to a chair and gagged in front of a good movie with some kink in it. I, too, am a lifelong horror fan, so that's reflected in the following:

Hellraiser's 1-4 and the recent "reboot" all play with pleasure/pain ideas....I even have a replica puzzle box!!
Dario Argento's "Opera" (aka "Terror at the Opera") has some moments of rope bondage.
Fury Road: Mad Max spends a good deal of the opening third variously gagged, caged and bound to a car fender!!

Non-horror:
Preaching to the Perverted
The Duke of Burgundy (Brilliant film all about power play/exchange..gorgeously shot and great soundtrack)
All Tied Up

As an aside, it never ceases to amaze me, how despite the fact that our chosen kinks are so often misunderstood or even vilified, there's just so damn much of it lurking around in so many "mainstream" entertainments...jolly glad that it is, though...there's hope for "Vanillakind" yet!!

Yeah, the trouble is, kinks show up in non-kink contexts where you're supposed to empathise with the victim, and usually, the bondage is just bad - although to be fair, the average villain doesn't go equipped with top-of-the-line bondage gear!

Where it's actual kink, there's a lot of "point and laugh"; and in the rare cases where that isn't the case, there's a sense of aberration; the participants are at least visibly quirky, and usually suffer mental illness et c. Even Secretary does that. You really have to get far away from Hollywood movies to have any chance of avoiding that bullshit.

True enough. Even "Preaching to the Perverted" which was partly crowdfunded by the UK kink community suffered a bit from the kind of stereotypes you mention. I think that mainstream entertainment is always going to go for the "mild titillation" for wide appeal rather than well-researched material for a perceived "niche" crowd. Quite often if I do fancy some viewing material to "get me in the mood", other than full-throttle professional porn which, to be honest, can sometimes also whiff of fakery, I will have a good root around Youtube...every now and then, some soul way braver than I is happy to share their solo/partnered bondage sessions. :D

I think the big problem with basically every kink/fetish is that the old addage applies of: "If you understand, no explanation is necessary. If you do not understand, no explanation is possible".

I can explain to someone WHAT I like about being tightly bound with no hope of escape or dressing like a maid and acting subservient/submissive. I can attempt to explain why, but in the end that still usually devolves into explaining what I like about it, not the why. Oftentimes that's just a mystery.

That is so true. Some years ago, I even went into therapy to try and understand why I love being tied up, as if it were a defective part of myself that needed remedying. I may have said it previously elsewhere in this forum, but for me a breakthrough moment was when my therapist said that my kink made me "exotic and interesting". Over the subsequent 20 or so years, I have much more fully embraced my kinkiness and simply except that these activities make me feel relaxed, elated, aroused....more truly me in fact. I still fly almost 100% "below the radar", not least of all, because of that very point; to try and explain this behaviour and interest to family and friends would be for me almost impossible and in my case, not really necessary. In "another life", I would very likely be a lifestyle submissive, but, in this one, I do allow myself the occasional moment of laughing out loud when I see a movie character straining so hard against hopelessly ineffective bonds and gags....we could show these directors a thing or two!!
