Mummification Machine

Post by severalist »

If only I had Bezos or Gates type wealth... This is the coolest thing I've ever seen!

Suppose I'd also be able to afford hiring someone to release me because escape seems impossible.

I'd so rather take a ride in this machine than any other amusement type of ride. What a time to be alive!

That looks primarily extremely dangerous as a solo activity.

It also doesn't look that expensive to build. I'm guessing a 3d printer and about a $1000 in materials would build one. It's two linear slides rotating around a central axis with a plank mounted to it, driven by a stepper motor on each axis controlled with a simple micro controller.

But to reiterate it's a REALLY bad idea for solo play

LOL! Pretty cool.

Their spanking machine is sub-par, but Robospanker sells a pallet wrapping machine they get from somewhere: https://robospanker.com/oscom/product_i ... ucts_id=53

This would be a simpler and cheaper design to replicate and takes up a lot less space, but of course one must be standing. I think shrinking someone to a pole or vertical plank would be preferable to free-standing.

It would be easy enough to make a release and a backup release for either approach. I'd think a razorblade pulled along the underside of the plank by a falling weight, supported by an electromagnet release, would do nicely. Could also energize a hotwire along the plank to effect a release.

I'm with Gregorovic on this - I have been pallet-wrapped a couple of times, and it really is totally escape-proof if applied properly, for example your hands must be palm-side towards the body, which prevents any attempt to push fingers through the film.

It is also restrictive of breathing, which requires care with the film tension. And it stops you sweating effectively so your temperature regulation could be threatened.

Rather like vac-beds, not a solo activity. If you want to try it, get a partner.

Hey, this machine is really cool!
And yes, it is quite expensive. Maybe this can serve as a more affordable interims solution:

I was collecting our tree before Christmas and actually chatted to the guys packing the trees, apparently several people have indeed passed through the tube and ended up wrapped, but it is fairly easy to escape as the webbing is not very strong.

but three or four trips through should be quite effective...

I can tell you with certainty stronger netting options exist, and can be quite inescapable. It's just the average Christmas tree gets wrapped in the cheapest stuff they can get away with as the margins on those are paper thin.

Wrap your body in an inflatable bed. Use belts to secure it too you, and then a fan on a timer to inflate it and you could have a simular affect.
