Here in The States BD or B & D stands for Bondage and Discipline. And I've always thought it was The United Kinkdom. Isn't it?

Yeah, UK is Domination for some reason, think its just a regional variation.

I thought us brits were supposed to have a stiff upper lip and all that.....

I think people might be getting their wires slightly crossed here. I was of the impression that BDSM translates into three pairs of letters:
BD - Bondage and discipline.
DS - Domination and submission.
SM - Sadism and Masochism.
So, the D and the S both have two possible meanings. Does this makes things any clearer?

Technically the Domination and submission.part has always been inferred since it requires some one to be dominant and one to be submissive to play. But as always some genius along the line decided that Domination and submission.was part and parcel of BDSM, or perhaps it was some religious Perv who wished for a "Kinky Trinity" to worship, who knows. But it is generally accepted now as the D in BDSM.
