I've seen a lot of weird stuff coming out of Japan, and this one is right up there.CheerfullyInsane wrote:"Look, why do you need two double-pedals on your bass-drum?? It's a concert for kids!"

What's amazing is how this guy is able to play percussion while unable to see diddly-squat from inside that costume...
Proving once again that the best way not to go nuts is to let it out once in a while.

Look at the world, and tell me the pleasures of sanity.
It should also be mentioned that the character is The Heavy Metal Cat That Saves Children.
Got his own animated show, and everything.

Also there's this....
Propellerheads by Japanese people in cartoon costumes.
Or at least, that's the sane version.

I like their version of the Mission Impossible theme.
A drumming thingamadoodle and a turtle that plays the electric guitar...
The drummer must be a relative of drummer Animal of the Muppet Show's band Dr. Teeth And The Electric Mayhem.

Re: Japan strikes again.
Old tread, but since this is also.....uhm...very, very Japanese, I figured I'd keep my weirdness confined to one corner of the web.
Old clip, and I'm sure many of you already know it, but for those who don't.....
What happens when you take three teenage chicks, and combine deathmetal with kawaii?
You get BabyMetal.
I got introduced to it by a friend of mine, and have since then introduced it to other friends.
And the initial reaction is pretty much universally "What the fuck did I just watch?"
Here's the thing though...
It's weird, it's Japanese, and it shouldn't work in any rational universe.
But it's also catchy as hell.

And the movement they make from about 0:41 - index fingers together and the other fingers crossed - is used in Japan to unexpectedly insert the index fingers into the boys' butts. It helps that the background musicians are very good at what they do.CheerfullyInsane wrote: ↑15 Apr 2024, 21:09 But it's also catchy as hell.

And the girls have insane stamina. Singing live with that much aerobic action throughout the whole concert is not an easy feat.
I believe they are training by singing on treadmills.
When they debuted, a lot of metalheads looked down at them for being some weird niche gimmick from Japan, but they straight up won a lot of them over because their music is just good fun and goes hard.
They have opened for Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica, and Guns N' Roses among others, if I remember correctly.
Life's too short to pretend you're not into some kinky shit.
Re: Japan strikes again.
Was an entertaining video. The things that Japanese content creators mix together often have me wondering “Why would you do that?” Of course, they ignore that question and use “Why not?” instead.

Don't get me wrong, I'm fully aware that every member of the band is very good at what they do.
I'm still not sure how the drummer isn't dead from dehydration wearing a silly skeleton suit.
(I used to be a drummer in my misspent youth )
And as I said, it's catchy as hell.
There's just a cultural fault-line between Japan (and to a certain degree S. Korea), where what is culturally accepted on one side, is a horde-with-pitchforks-crowd offense on the other.
It's just.....a little odd that it works.
Re: Japan strikes again.
That ... defies classification.
Yeah, Japanese cultural mores are ... different.
