Forum downtime (Solved)

Post by anna »

The forum will soon* suffer an extended downtime due to a server migration. The exact time and length is unknown at the moment but all effort will be spent trying to make it as painless as possible. Any delays in going back online will be posted on the main site.

Thank you for your understanding.

All done. I am really sorry for the inconvenience this extended downtime has caused. I understand and fully share the frustration seeing it not working. It might have looked like nothing was being done about it for several days but things were being done to get it back as soon as possible.

No worries. Thanks for keeping the forum and site running! A few days downtime isn't a big deal.

I've done extensive maintenance myself and know how frustrating it can be. I personally always try to prepare things in a separate environment and prepare everything as good as I can, so the last step is to put the forum in maintenance mode, then export the db, import in new environment, then alter dns/etc to point the old forum to the new location. I've succesfully migrated one of my forums with about 30 minutes downtime this way.

But yeah, that is if you know things will go smoothly, and my tests on beforehand didn't go that great and I had a few failed migrations offsite that took several days to get sorted.

So thanks for all the effort. I know how much work it is, especially if a forum throws errors to the public.

A tip for next time, if the forum throws errors, it may be better to prepare a .htaccess file to redirect everyone to a static page and whitelist your own ip for that process.

But what if SQL errors are my fetish? "Oooh... I'd love to try and inject that!" "Look at the size of that index...."

*ahem*

Never mind, carry on!

Glad to have you back. Unfortunately the server didn't allow access to the main site either. But we can now enjoy the best site once again.

Woohoo! We're back! 8)

Thanks a million, Anna, for doing all that you're doing for us kinksters. We're grateful for all of it.

It was a rather painless hiatus - withdrawal symptoms hadn't yet set in.

We now return to our regularly scheduled perversions. :whip:

Good to see it back - I was beginning to worry that something catastrophic had happened.

yeah, glad it is back ,thanks for the work you but in Anna.

A sql is like a hamster but were as your hamster is analogue the sql is purely digital and if it bites you, you can contract Damn-pc-no-workous which although not fatal is very annoying and can serious effect your pleasure sensors.
