Thought on Zipties?

Post by Ftgirls »

I recently picked up some zip ties for self bondage use as I had none in the house however I have heard mixed things about them, are they good for self bondage or do most people advice against them?

They are better for tightening ropes etc. than as bondage items themselves, as they can over tighten and cut into skin, block circulation.

Agreed. Very versatile for 'combining' elements like attaching wrist cuffs to a belt or cuffs to the legs of a table but very harsh on skin.

I have some really long ones, maybe 600mm, which I use to tighten the wrist chains for an overnight session. Cuffs are chained to either side of the bed with enough slack that my hands can meet in front to padlock the cuffs. A cable tie has been looped through each chain and engaged so I can then pull the free end of each cable tie to take out all the slack and hold my hands far apart so I can't play with myself. Magnetic locks and melting bottles of ice will release the chains in the morning.

They're kind of terrible for bondage itself because they tend to cut into the skin. If it's going over clothing (pantyhose doesn't count) then they might be ok. You can also find ones that are .5" wide which will be less problematic.

I've only ever used them as an accessory... to tighten other bondage.

Never used them in bondage. Same reasons as listed above. I much prefer - and love - rope.

However, long zip ties make great (and cheap) corset boning. 8)

I'll add my voice to the "don't use them for self-bondage" ! They are sometimes used by security services as quick and effective handcuffs, try to escape and you will suffer considerable pain and probable serious damage to skin, blood vessels and nerves. As a means of tightening rope, or perhaps securing a hog-tie, spread-eagle or similar, fine, as long as there is no direct skin contact.

Also, make sure you have a good set of wire cutters to release them. Scissors are really not suitable - as I know from personal experience, trying to release a cable-tie link between cuffs - the scissors turned and cut one hand, as the pivot opened up and the two blades separated. A knife would be even more dangerous!

Yes, I completely agree, zip ties are way too dangerous to use as a main form of restraint, but very handy in other ways. Please forgive me if this is not exactly the right location, but this question does give me the opportunity to share my regular wrist-restraining method. Given my self-imposed limits of mistrusting time-delay methods, this combination gives me the "inescapable" feelings when the figure-of-eight junction is zipped up (no leverage to snap it), but is a few moments work to unravel the bunched-up cord, tie the loose end to lower-limb bondage, then "tug'n'snap" free. Also, because of the lack of leverage, very thin zip ties work very well and also snap easier at release time, adding even more safety. However, my EMT shears are always to hand, just in case of frayed cord!! I hope the pictures might help :D Oh, just noticed that the photo order is "bottom up", but as I rather like the sound of that, I'll leave them as they are!!

And that's proper electricians wire cutters, not snips for electronics and PCB assembly, and have two pairs. I've seen blades shear clean off smaller and cheaper cutters which is not what you want when they're the only pair within reach of the bed or chair you're attached to.
