Because of advertising on their web sites. It's like over-the-air television - it's free to watch, but you pay by getting +/- 15 minutes of adverts every hour.

They're actresses and models. For them it's a job, period. They get paid for the job. Then they go home and wait for the next job. It pays the bills - or even college tuition - until something better an more conventional comes along. For most, it's not a career.
