A word of caution using combination padlocks

Post by cerenaselfbound »

With most of this type of padlock it is possible to change the combination by opening it & turning the U bar & re-setting the digits. As a precaution & prior to any final use of any of this type of lock, test them first to make sure the combination is what's expected. One of my locks was actually changed by a freak movement & it was only by chance when I came to close it, it wouldn't as one digit had changed. Now I sometimes use them on my wrist straps on each headboard post on my double bed, & if I'd have locked it without testing I would never have been able to get free.

Very good advice.

Although you can always release a combination lock by careful testing of every possible number, that will take a long time, even at one test every second, a possible 9999 seconds adds up to nearly 3 hours, and could you really make the tests that fast and never make a mistake? and with a 5-ring combination lock that turns the possible delay to 30 hours!
be a switch, double the fun :-)

I always store my locks clicked shut, so i can only use them when i have the right key or combination and i'm forced to try at least once if they still work properly.
