double postings & PHP error error: email

Post by ponylady »

a couple of you have experienced this error, and it resulted in double posts.

most often your 1st post will still be submitted.

if you encounter that error, just hit the back button of your browser, and copy your original message to be sure it was not typed in vain.

now just reload the forum index you wanted to post in. you will likely see
your post with the error message being submitted nonetheless.

hope that helps.

I got that too, but not everywhere. I did what you just indicated, but hit back twice, to get the original thread page, and F5 to reload that page.

Well, at least now I know that a)it's not just a local affair and b)I'm not hallucinating.

This is very unfortunate. Things like this should preferably never happen but sometimes they do. It have not happened for me but it seams that there have been an increased number of incidents the last few days. Perhaps this can be related to an hardware and software update that have been carried out on our cluster by our host. As far as I know this should be finished now.

That is not good. This is probably just something temporary but please paste the error message in this thread if it happens again.

Note: I've seen the line number change a couple of times, but it is mostly 234, like in Jenny's post.

Strange that it would need to use emailer.php. That probably means that someone have checked the "Notify me when a reply is posted" when posting a message. This should send an email to the member each time a new post is posted and of some reason that does not work as it should.

Unfortunately it was not that simple... No post in that thread had that option activated. This means that someone have probably activated the "Watch this topic for replies" function at the bottom of the page in that thread.

Please everyone make sure that you do not have this activated as it seams to not work correctly. The threads identified so far are these:
http://forum.boundanna.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1873
http://forum.boundanna.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1489

If you have activated the watching feature it will read "Stop watching this topic". Just click on the text to deactivate it. Thank you.

The error should be fixed now. The "notify me" thing will work again.
