Inserting pictures in your post

Post by curious_sb »

To insert a picture in your post you must first upload the picture to a free host.

One I can recommend is http://www.imageshack.us , no need to register and its totally free.

Once you've hosted your image ok, you will be taken to a page that shows you all the URLs (web addresses) you can use to post your picture in forums or link to in emails etc...

Just grab the basic image URL without any tags.

Next come back to Boundanna.com forums, and paste the URL into the textbox, but before the picture will display properly you need to encase the URL in IMG tags, example is below, note that you will need to get rid of the spaces for the tags to actually work, I added the spaces on purpose to prevent the forum recognising them as a tag / url and trying to process them.

[ i m g ] h t t p : / / w w w . i m a g e s h a c k . u s / y o u r i m a g e . j p g [ / i m g]

Notice that the close tag has a forward slash in it.

Note that your image will not actually appear untill you either preview or submit your post.

You should also see the rules regarding acceptable image sizes

You should also read the rules on acceptable image content

Picture Problems

Post by onestrangeguy »

Alright, So I'm old and dense.

I posted a picture on Photobucket. no problem.
My picture is available at - http://i479.photobucket.com/albums/rr15 ... ghtner.jpg
To test that it works, I typed this into the address line of MS Explorer, and my picture comes up. - (Like the turtle crossing the road) - So far, So good!

At the bottom of my post In the forum DIY - "Rope Rarchet..." I inserted [img]-the above URL-[/img]
I hit preview to see the results, and only see the text that I entered.
I saved it so that you can see the results at http://forum.boundanna.net/forum/viewto ... 7988#17988
Does anyone have any idea what I did wrong?
Any suggestions would be greatly apreciated.
Life is tough when you get old!

Here you go! I copied your url to the clipboard, then opened the reply form. Start by clicking the "Img" button, then pasted the url, then hit "close tags"(or hit the "Img" button again. At first it didn't work, but after I looked I realized there was a space between the tags and the url. after I took them out it worked fine.

in photobucket, go to options, and change the layout to show "tags & descriptions".

this will provide you with an already formatted image-tag you just need to copy.

example:

hope that helps.

Thanks again for all your help. I did go to photobucket and found the "Options". That took some looking at first because i didn't know where to look. I found the link, and copied it. I then went back to my post and pasted the link in. was surprised to see the same results. I now believe that perhaps I played with my user options on this site, and unknowingly turned something off that I shouldn't have. This came to mind when I read the reply from cdinbonds. At first there were two pictures in that reply, one in a quote from my previous post. I guess I destroyed that when I went in and edited my post. In any case, that shows that I must have had the format at least close to right. This really has me stumped, and I'm to stubern to let it go. Does anyone have any thoughts in that area?

Thanks again.

Only place you could change anything is your profile. Make sure that BBCode is turned on. maybe a moderator has another idea.

It's amazing how much trouble you can get into by just playing and nosing around. I should know that from my SB experiences, but it's tough to teach an old dog new tricks!

Yes, BB Code was set to off, now my pictures seem to work.

Interestingly enough, going back and editing my previous post still does not produce a picture. The old values must still be bound to it.

Thanks!

Hi,

I uploaded a gif file (2 frame animation) but in the post it's just a static image.

Is the gif format not supported?

looks like the gif was broken during uploading to imageshack.

i see only random pixels of the 2nd frame on the IS-page, too.

A little word to the wise...

Many image hosting services have a policy about sexually explicit (or suggestive) images - i.e. they don't want them. That's mainly so they don't get sued or prosecuted for inappropriate content (it wouldn't be good for business if say, a photo shows up on their server that is determined to be kiddie porn, or something like that). So don't be surprised if images that are a bit (or plenty) racy get removed after a while. On the up side, they usually substitute an image with the reason why they removed the image.

The best alternative is to use BoundAnna's image attachment feature, while respecting the forum's image content rules (read the rules!).
