English, a place arrogant enough to advertise itself on TV as "The best place on earth"

BC is pretty awesome, but I'm somewhat dubious about the "best place on earth" title.

Also, whoever said America has better places, remember: Hell is in the United States, not Canada.

There is also a Hel in Poland. I know, I have actually been there. In fact I think, I am probably the only one, if not, one of the few Americans who have been there. I like to say "I've been to Hel and back." :hi:

It must be Norway, then - I only remember it was in Scandinavia somewhere. I remember some time back people traveled there so they could send postcards back with "Greetings from Hell!", or "See you in Hell!".

So, if Hell is in Norway, it must freeze over?

Norway is "always" frozen! ;) There is a saying in the north of Norway: What did you do this summer? I was in the shower!" ;) But there is sunny 24 hours a day these time of year! The so called midnight sun (not two suns as some "stupid" tourist thinks, but it does not set and thus does not rise!) ;)

Absolutely! Germany, the Netherlands, and Scandinavia are at the top of my list of places I want to visit some day :hi: Although, I can imagine 24-hour darkness getting depressing after a while. I've heard depression rates are higher in the northernmost parts of Norway... is that true, Zimon?

That is very valuable information.

Now I can go to all those people who refused to do something until Hell froze over...

Here near oslo there is no midnight sun, as we are too far south, but still here we now got sunrise at 0530 and sunset at 2300 hours ca. But the further north you get the longer the sun stays up, until it does not set at all at theese times. The 21st of June the sun will turn at it will start to get darker and darker until the 21st of Secember approximately. So as mentioned now there is midnight sun in the north of Norway, but in the winter the sun will not rise at all. Regarding depression, there is a fact that summer, sun, warmth will be an antidepressive factor, but dunno if there is a real fact that there is alot of depression in the north, I belive that cause of the cold and darkness there will be more people inside and not going out so much, and thus there will be a depressing factor there. ;)

My wife is from Tromsø (the largest city in the north of Norway, and sometimes called the Paris of the North), been there several times myself both during summer and winter. Winter is is dark all the time, just in the middle of the day there is light a few hours, but the sun is not visible at alle. It just gives light from the horizon. During the summer there is always light and you need to use dark heavy curtains if you need darkness to sleep. One time I visited there we spent the time at my sister in law's house, the bedroom was facing north and the curtains was not as heavy as I would like. So no good sleep for me there those few days. lol

And yes, knowledge is power!

If any of you are visiting Norway and Oslo, just give me a PM and let me know and I may help on what to see here! And if possible perhaps get togheter. :)
