Yeah, it was hard to tell from the pics, but it looked like a whole engines were missing as SS ascended. Not a surprise when you see the rain of debris reaching out into the ocean - there was one particularly big splash and I wonder what that was ...

I'm not sure what the objection to diverters is. I would have thought a flame diverter directing exhaust away from the rocket and important infrastructure would have been a no-brainer.

Given the amount of damaged engines and the exploding hydraulic power unit (and the amount of debris seen shooting up right next to the rocket during ignition and throttle up I find the claim they have no evidence for engines getting damaged by pad debris to be a little unbelievable. Other than that he's not actually saying all that much. I also sincerely doubt they can actually repair the launch mount, let alone in 6 to 8 weeks. It had some serious structural parts just disappear, you don't just recast those and call it good.
