Then there's South Africa whose new case count is dropping:

https://www.ctvnews.ca/world/case-drop- ... -1.5716355

I saw that coming - omicron is like a powder trail: it flares up real quickly and then eventually fizzles out just as quickly once it runs out of people to infect. Less time circulating means less probability that it could mutate yet again. And since very little stops it, just about everyone will get it - all the powder will be consumed.

Many believe that omicron might be the final variant of SARS-CoV-2 and from here it will be about as common and as problematic as the common cold. I'm crossing my fingers that this turns out to be true.

On my end, I'm feeling much better, still a little sensitive in the airways (they did get a good beating) but gaining strength overall. Knowing that I now have natural immunity reassures me a lot about the future.

What scares me more now are how politicians and civil servants are managing this mess. Like Ronald Reagan said "The nine most frightening words in the English language are: I'm from the government and I'm here to help".

That's so true.

You can't possibly be serious.

I am. I think you can't possibly have accurately read what I've written, since your link is totally irrelevant to my statement. "Taken as a country" is directly opposite "compared to other countries". I can certainly rephrase... those who work are more likely than those who don't to be vaccinated, AND those who work are more likely than those who don't to be tested. A number of employments are requiring vaccination in the US, and many are more rigorous about testing people than the situation when people stay at home not working. People less likely to test are, for these two reasons, also less likely to be vaccinated... in my opinion.

For the next point, which you did not quote, those over 65 in the US are about 90% fully vaccinated, and more than 95% at least 1 jab.

Questions?

My major concern is similar... but I worry more about the media. Particularly the way they've broadly allied with a specific political view of the COVID and been fully engaged in virus fear porn. It's certainly an evil when the media is in bed with politicians. They made a hero out of Cuomo in New York, exactly while his policies forced nursing homes to accept COVID-positive patients leading to massive numbers of deaths that he then attempted to hide.... and Fauci who has lied to the population repeatedly for our own good.

I'd really like to see an actual pursuit of the origin of the COVID. It seems reasonably certain at this time that China birthed the thing, and if that's not the worst atrocity any country has ever inflicted on the world (Backstreet Boys excluded) I don't know what is.

Really good news here. Well-constructed, small pre-print study from some top researchers in South Africa: https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101 ... 21268380v1

Memory T cell response induced by either vaccination or prior infection from any prior variant is effective against Omicron. "We found that 70-80% of the CD4 and CD8 T cell response to spike was maintained across study groups."

While the 32 spike protein mutations in Omicron are effective at escaping neutralizing antibodies, T cell response remained strong. Memory cell response to other Omicron proteins from recovered people also strong. These conclusions are supportive of the data we actually see, in which many people are becoming infected but few develop serious cases. Authors conclude this evidence "bodes well in the event that more highly mutated variants emerge in the future".

Nice! I like one Twitter comment about it: ¡viva la inmunidad natural!.

That's what I have now, natural immunity. Glad to have it - much more robust and longer lasting than the vaccines.

There's one vaccine that's interesting coming out of Walter Reed Medical Center - an inert empty shell (polyhedron) with the spike proteins of the different COVID variants, and of the SARS variants, stuck to it. Basically a fake virus Lego kit. So far tests show it has good immunization against all the viruses associated with the proteins used. New virus? Take off one and plug in another.

Still coughing once in a while, mostly when I talk. Airways are still irritated but slowly healing. At least it doesn't hurt my head anymore.

Almost cough-free now for a couple of days. Yay!

I can feel my "air ducts" coming back to normal. The absolute best is taking a walk or doing some other exercise outside in the clean, cold air. Nothing beats it. I can take complete lung-fulls of air in and breathe out without getting into a coughing fit. Even indoors it feels better. I got this beat!

The cherry on the sundae, I read something on the Quebec vaccination web site: those who have been doubly-vaccinated and have had a breakthrough case of COVID no longer need the booster. The virus is the booster.

This horrid little piece of evil microbiological effluvium has been out-evilled and whipped into submission by yours truly. :whip:

Hurray!

Now might I suggest you give it a lot of extra strokes just to make sure you've got it well and truly beat and to make sure it gets the message? Gives some chance to practice that precision whipping and build up some stamina too.
How may I serve you? *Curtsey*

Glad to hear that, Jenny!

My wife tested positive last week. We were renting a mini Nubian buck (to get busy with some of our ladies), and they stink from urinating all over themselves. After catching him for the return trip, she noticed that she couldn't smell him. Mild cold symptoms otherwise, and testing negative now. Our two daughters and I didn't seem to get it... but who knows? We're all getting it, multiple times, from here on out.

Wow...

Not only am I being serenaded (last time was the 80s...) but a group of cheerleaders are doing their number too.

I've never had cheerleaders before! Nice! 8)

That's what I think. Over time, everyone will get it, no matter what measures are put in place until it runs out of people to infect.

It will be eventually morphing into a cold, though if this was supposed to be a cold, it was a meanie. It slammed me down to the mat like Mad Dog Vachon...

But I got up and kicked him in the nuts.

I meant every word of it. I had to wait to post, haven't been so jovial myself lately, but had to express that for you. I don't know, almost looks like the 2 cheerleaders are jumping through the 2nd story windows of a house with excitement. And they're doing it for you.

In my experience, the only time anyone has jumped out of a 2nd story window was into a large pile of snow. With much giggling ensuing (ah, blissful youth...).

Now there are two of them doing it for me! 8) I've never had anyone jump out of a window for (or because of  ) me.

Those girls are skilled - jumping through there without knocking anyone else down, that's talent.
