Kitchensafe meets Arduino

Post by occorics »

I had an old kitchensafe lid laying here and since i haven't used it after i got the updated version, i decided to hack it a bit...
I didn't manage to open it, so i cut away parts from the bottom randomly. I was lucky and didn't damage too much

I cut the wires for the motor and push-button off and connected them to an ESP8266.
The KSafe can now be controlled from a browser. It get's the time from the internet.
Unlock time is stored in flash memory together with a code which allows to unlock the safe or modify the release-time.
With the push-button, locking/unlocking can be triggered again, just in case, something should get stuck...

I need to test how long it can run on batteries and whether i can save some power. Or maybe i'll just run it from a wall-wart...

Thank you for sacrificing your equipment for the good of science.

Hmm, have 3 of them from their kickstarter, might have to try playing around with them some more now.

Ouch, the kitchen save looks a bit desolate now
If you get hold of a 3d printer, you might print a new cover for it: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3509056
But anyway a brilliant idea!

Just takes 1 idea to start a domino effect.

Yes, it's pretty sturdy, I needed a bit of convincing
No that i know the insides, two holes to get to the wires would have been enough...
