Hi, some time ago I decided to build a steel fiddle, maybe some of you have already seen it in a different forum, but I also wanted to share it here:
All parts are lasercut and then welded together, the total cost was about 100€. If you are interested, I could upload the DXF drawings so you can get your own parts cut.

Welcome to the forum!
That is a great looking fiddle.
If you are interested, I could upload the DXF drawings so you can get your own parts cut.
Please do. I would also be interested in adding the files needed to the main website, with your permission.

Thx, of course you can add it to your website. The files are available in four different sizes:
Size S:
http://fschnecke.bplaced.net/dxf_g/std/s.dxf
Size M:
http://fschnecke.bplaced.net/dxf_g/std/m.dxf
Size L:
http://fschnecke.bplaced.net/dxf_g/std/l.dxf
Size XL:
http://fschnecke.bplaced.net/dxf_g/std/xl.dxf
There are two parts in the DXF. You need two of the small parts and three of the large parts:
Just weld everything together, add bolts and a lock and have fun

This is such an amazing item
Just a question. When I click on the size M link, I get to sort of a page with all the letters and all (have no Idea how to describe it).
Shouldn't it be a file?
Or can I just copy and paste it into word or whatever and save the file that way?
I want to have it in a file that I can give to someone with a laser, so they can just import it into their computer and start cutting

If your browser doesn't download the file, try right-clicking the link and use "save link as" or "save target as".

I tried to save the link as M.dxf
It's a 387kb file. Is this correct?

And it's best to use 5mm thick stainless steel, right?

Thats right, the file is only ~387 Kb. I used 5mm steel because its cheap and easy to weld, but of course you can also use stainless steel or aluminium. The fiddle is made of 5 layers of steel, so 5mm material thickness will result in a total thickness of 25mm.

Welcome aboard.
That looks really good!
Just imagining cutting that by hand makes me shiver!

That's a really great piece of work. A real work of art as well as a piece of bondage kit. Are the various layers riveted together?

It should be possible to 3d print the parts, but I think its going to be very expensive.
