Oh, the horrible abbreviations!

Post by Sir Cumference »

There is a limited number of possible combinations for short abbreviations.

Qwerty recently showed us that "MILF welcomes pope's visit".

Today I looked up a news story at BBC.... and had a hard time only reading it at "British Broadcasting Corporation".

I have a problem deciding which is appropriate when I see "CBT"

In the UK, apart from the version we all know and love, it can mean "Compulsory Basic Training" related to getting a motorbike licence, or "Cognitive Behavioural Therapy" often used in mental health treatment. Actually, in the latter case, our version of CBT could well be therapeutic!

CBT also means "Closed beta testing" in gaming world. So as we say: "A good kid has many names"

Aaaaaaah!
"Cognitive Behavioural Therapy"!

I saw that abbreviation used in another discussion (in a galaxy far, far away), and I really could not make the context fit with my version of CBT.
It makes sense now!

Of course, you can also abbreviate "association" that way...... not that it is any better.
