Hi,

awsome work, i really appreciate. Do u think it´s possible to incorporate the option to select a second soundcard just for the teasing. Using estim, this option would help a lot.

1.02 still does not play any sound whatsoever on Windows for me.

Win8 Pro, 64bit, Visual C++ SP installed.

I am also getting this error message when trying to add "beep" in ( inmy case) "D:\sbbj_win\audio" as a custom folder:

"Home/sbbj" folder is empty, behavior doesn't change if "Home/sbbj" filled with sounds into "./audio" or "./audio/beep".

I hope we can help each other. Feel free to ask/PM if you need additional information. Will monitor closely.

I have no idea how I could accomplish this. The audio system I am using (phonon) is not very good as it is. It seems to work well in Mac and Linux, but has some odd issues with audio delays and the like on Windows. What platform are you using?

And the second question, why does the estim rely on a sound card? Can it be activated using an application instead? Cause I already have the logic for that in the version I'm working on now.

Perhaps since there's not that much difference between a sound wave and electronic signal wave, the estim unit he's using is installed as a sound card from a driver perspective. (I sincerely doubt mainstream operating systems have "estim device" as a category of driver.) In which case, he'd be selecting between his sound card driver that is connected to speakers and the sound card driver that's actually connected to the estim device. Meaning he gets various kinds of shocks as his non-visual prompts. Actually a pretty awesome way of making the harsh electronic bleeps a lot less mood-shattering (Personally, once I've figured out how to actually set either of these programs up such that they work (getting a decent camera angle and getting the lighting bright enough that it shows up without being so bright it washes out, which is all just a matter of trial and error), I'd have to go through some of my collected porn and pick out some more fitting sound bytes before doing a session bound...which I can only do since I'm not distributing it, thus making it fair use under copyright law.)

(Anyone who does have sound working, I can't teach you how to pull it out, either, since all my experience with such things is in Windows, not the Unix family. However, Google can.)

Of course, this is an assumption on my part. The closest thing I have to an e-stim unit is a 9 volt battery, so it's all just conjecture.

From what I've just read, it seems some estim devices can be directly connected to a soundcard / ipod / whatever, to control it.

So I suppose estim/soundcard output may be possible. I'll pencil it in as a feature request. Someone would need to specify what output volumes / frequencies / etc. would be needed to produce different responses in the estim.

Responded via PM. I cannot reproduce your issue on WIn7 or Win8.


Could all windows users report their feedback on audio output for v1.02. For my part, I have audio lags / delays on Win7 (x64), but no issues on Win8 (x64).

Windows 7 (x64) user, and I get no sound either. Everything else seems to work fine. The options for sound are pointed at the correct folder, all the sound files play in VLC, and both SBBJ and my computer have volume set at 100%...but still no sound.

Place the contents in the sbbj_win folder, and then run it again. Any audio now?

Also, make sure the audio files play in Windows Media Player, rather than VLC. WMP plays via DirectShow, which is what Phonon is using, so if it can play it, that rules out the phonon_backend.


[UPDATE] Never mind. I can confirm all the windows issues mentioned here. I set up a test box with no development stuff on it, and I do see the same results mentioned on this page. No need to do these tests, they will not work. I will try figure this out, and will update here when I have more info.

And the solution is....

Move the directory ./sbbj_win/plugins/phonon_backend TO ./sbbj_win/phonon_backend
Remove the directory ./sbbj_win/plugins

I cannot believe I spent this many hours to figure out something like this. Grrrr. And in my clean test box (Win7 x64), the audio lags are quite noticeable, enough to make the audio kind of useless. So I will need to research this as well. Please let me know if you encounter audio lags, *or not*, on windows, along w/ your system info.

Win8 Pro, 64bit, working perfectly. Only did a short test, but did not experience any lag so far. Also, I now have sound.

I moved the backend folder out of the plugins folder, and after a few brief tests, I'm happy to report that everything seems to work just fine now!

thank you very much for that piece of software - it is fun! :D

the only problem i have so far is that it doesn't make any screenshots...
there's only an empty folder in C:\users\xxx\sbbj ? :(
btw: it would be nice to be able to customize where the screenshots will be saved.. :)

any suggestions? :)

I just re-tested this default on Mac and Windows and see no issues. Is the folder you mentioned totally empty? No sub-directories? For today, they should be found in: C:\Users\your_username\sbbj\131123_1333
If you continue to have issues, I can post a debug version with some log output to help troubleshoot.

As for customizing the output directory, I am reluctant to do this now. I had hoped to do a live video capture at one point, and allowing the user to customize this brings in the possibility of the user selecting a media with low write speed or capacity, which complicates things. I can only suggest two things:
1. I can put this as a feature request for later.
2. Link the C:\Users\your_username\sbbj folder to another location. This can be done with symbolic links in Mac/Lin, or with a junction point in windows.

kevlar: you could probably just provide a path variable modified in the settings window (like how word processors let you select where backup files are stored), rather than using the standarized save-as dialogues that give you the option to choose format.

Meanwhile, since Windows users generally aren't familiar with Junctions (it's kinda an obscure feature and most modern Windows users never even use command prompt), here's a short tutorial on them:

Junctions are like shortcuts, but they're folders instead of files. Using my example with the minecraft saves, I deleted the default savegame directory in the Minecraft game (C:\users\***\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\saves), and created a "MinecraftSaves" directory in my dropbox folder (let's just call it C:\Dropbox). I then created a junction "folder" called saves to replace the one I deleted, that links to C:\Dropbox\MinecraftSaves. So when the game wants to save, it goes into the saves "folder" and writes the data like normal, and Windows puts the files in the dropbox folder instead.

To do this, I used a small downloadable program called junction.exe. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to come with Windows. It is downloadable here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-CA/sysi ... 96768.aspx. Don't worry, that's Microsoft's website. No viruses, and it has the whole digital signature thing to prove it. If you put it in C:\Windows\system32, you will be able to run it from any program on your computer and you can skip step 2 below

The page contains some instructions, but the documentation is a bit bare-bones. (If you're using this for something major, like relocating Program Files to a different hard drive, a mistake can be very damaging, but in this case, it would have a trivial effect) So here's some better instructions.

1 - Open command prompt - on windows 7, open the start menu, type cmd, then enter. (You might have to open in admin mode, in which case, after typing cmd, press control+shift+enter.)

2 - Navigate DOS to get to the folder you downloaded junction to. If it's on a different drive, type A: (where A is the letter of the hard drive. It's probably NOT A). If you need to open a folder, type "cd FOLDERNAME" and if you need to go back one level (from C:\Users to C:\ for instance) type "cd .."

3 - In explorer, make a directory where you want to save the screenshots and name it. (not sure, but I think you'd have to remake the junction if you rename the folder, so get it right). Memorize or write down the full path of the folder. C:\Users\***\My Documents\SBBJ Screenshots, for instance.

4 - Delete the folder the program saves screenshots to by default. Going by kevlar's post, this is C:\Users\***\sbbj.

5 - back in command prompt, type in the following command:

junction "C:\Users\***\sbbj" "C:\Users\***\My Documents\SBBJ Screenshots"
Don't forget to replace the *** with your username, and adjust the folders specified as needed. The key point here is that the first folder you specify will be created as a junction. It's not really a folder - it's a link to the second folder. Also, if any folders in those paths have spaces, like "Program Files" or "My Documents", then you need to enclose quotes around the whole thing. In the above example, if there were no quotes, the program would place the junction correctly, but link it to C:\Users\***\My. (Well, actually it would abort before this because it wouldn't know what to do with "Documents\SBBJ" and "Screenshots".)

Does this make sense?

IMPORTANT EDIT:
I neglected to mention that junction folders (the ones linking to elsewhere on the computer) should not be deleted normally. If you delete it normally, windows will also delete the contents of the folder it links to. (This is because Microsoft implemented junctions such that the OS doesn't even know the data's stored elsewhere.)

There is a delete command using junction that you can use to safely remove just the junction folder.

You'll need to perform the first 2 steps of the instructions above. If you are deleting the sbbj junction folder, then it would be

Particularly problematic if you have critical data in the folder it links to (like having the Users folder on a separate hard drive to reduce wear on a Solid State drive.)

Hi,

the estim box i use is triggered by sound. Depending on the audio file , you get diffrent kind of sensations.
Every sound causes a sensation, thats why i need to seperate the teasing audio from the instruction audio.
Maybe u could implement the option to select diffrent audio files, for reward or punishment.
