Re: Rope cutter?
Nice idea.
Here my thougts...
You would have to cut a slash in the carabiner.
The idea is to put the blade in there.
You could glue it by using super-glue, or you could use screws and nuts. Simply drill the carabiner with the blade inserted from the side.

Re: Rope cutter?
This sounds to me like another complicated gadget.
Perhaps what we really need is some sort of rope that dissolves after a set period of time. sort of like the old reel to reel tape in, was it 'Man from uncle' movies self destructed once it was played.
as for me, a pair of scissors, or a knife works just fine.

Re: Rope cutter?
i go secret agent style and just leave broken glass laying around to cut the rope with.

Re: Rope cutter?
You could do something like fastening a hacksaw blade to a wall or other item so that the teath just stuck out a little by putting two screws through the holes in the ends. That way you could eventually abrade the rope by rubbing against the blade.

Re: Rope cutter?
they look a bit bulky, how about just having a loop of string tied into the bondage, and when you want to be released, you just pull it out, much simpler, or of course go with the ice method, make a lovely icey rod. and stick that through. icey rods may be misused though.

Re: Rope cutter?
Too funny.
It depends what you are looking for at the end of the day. If the material you are looking to cut is in fact cord or binds, for safety reasons you should make sure that the tool you select can reliably cut the bind. Search on safety scissors for some other alternatives. I carried a strap cutter in the middle east and have found that it easily and safely will cut webbing, clothes (BDU's), and even a boot with one pull. The opening is such that it minimizes the risk of loping off a finger tip (note the word minimizes )
This is another alternative - strap cutter only not the entire system

but then again, If you looking to open mail, then a letter opener is an apropriate tool
