Hi ruru,
I'm as perplexed as you and anyone else. I'm an admin on Gromet's Plaza forum and am not aware of any impending outages though Gromet did talk a while ago of upgrading sites so I'm hoping it is just this and nothing as dire as another crash.

I'm going to shoot him an email but as we tend to communicate via forum PMs my message might be a bit lost among the many story submissions he gets. I'll post a message here on Boundanna if I hear anything back.
Trish

I have had intermittent connection problems, I suspect it is more likely ISP connection problems to the antipodes rather than a fault on Gromets site.

IIRC, a 404 error is the server signaling it can't find the file you're attempting to access, meaning there is a server (with accompanying connection) to issue the 404 error.

So the server hosting Gromet's Plaza (and associated sites) is up, but for some reason the web page cannot be found.

Jenny.

Glad it was just a transient problem. Sometimes a 404 is all you get when a site goes away forever...
