Prolonged use of posture collar?

Post by hadro64 »

Hi there

I recently bought myself a posture collar, and I like wearing it.
I'm thinking about wearing it whenever I can, but I suspect that wearing it too long might harm my neck and/or weaken the muscles.

What are your perspective on this? Am I right to assume this risk?
About how long would be too long?

24 hours a day is the ideal that I desire, thought practical circumstances and a bit need to be discrete would make that pretty much impossible. So I'll probably go for 8 hours a day ±, and night sleep maybe

Do neck exercises when you have it off.

i do not wear mine 24 hours a day since i have to go to work mon-fri, but aside from that i wear mine "all the time" for years now. my neck is just as strong now as it was before like in high school or whatever. it's not like people go around trying to lift weights with their head anyway, lol.

after all this time there has only been 1 noticeable change, and that is my adams apple does not hang as much as it used to. when i first started wearing the colar it was very hard to swallow because the adams apple was being pressed on (and i have always had it on its tightest). after all this time "it" has learned how to pull up and stay more or less out of the way and i have no troubles eating or drinking with the collar on. you can still see it like in that picture over there >>> unless i've changed my profile picture since this posting. it's still there but hardly as pronounced as it used to be.

this is an after effect i am more than willing to deal with since adams apples are not very feminine anyway. i am sure if i stop wearing the collar for a year it would drop back down, but why would i want to do that? its so cozy.

if you have to go to work like me, and you sleep in the said collar, make sure you have at least an hour and a half so you can take it off before going to work. if you don't people will wonder why you have these weird lines around on your neck.

How many years have you been wearing your collar?
Do you ever wear it in public?

So basically, you're saying that you have no (sign of) neck problems or muscle problems after wearing the collar in what I will assume is around 8 hours per day + each night, and entire weekends? No loss of muscle strenght at all?

Not in public. Everything I do is behind closed doors [but not necessarily alone]. That collar in the picture is about 4 years old.

More like 5 hours + night, I get off work late (6pm) and fall asleep around midnight. And yeah the weekends. Not a single issue. Like I said it was hard to swallow at the start, but that went away fast.

[update] there is one side effect i forgot to account for. i have slightly better posture while sitting at my desk at work. lol.

This past month I have worn it a little less because I bought a 5pc matching studded collar and cuff set that I like to wear too.

(the matching set, i have the office all alone today ^_^)
