An excellent site for all sorts of reference material (mostly in links) is LISA - the Long Island Staylace Association at
www.staylace.com - be prepared for a good long read because this site is huge as far as corset info goes.
If you don't have a lot of sewing experience, making a corset might be a challenge. Not so much sewing it together - anyone who knows how to operate a sewing machine can sew together a couple of pieces of cloth - but getting the sizes right and knowing how to alter after the first test fit is something else altogether. Advanced knowledge helps a lot, but you will need a lot of time and patience (and a lot of extra cloth) if you're a beginner - you'll be learning along the way. Even with good sewing skills, it's not an easy task because you'll be making a garment that will tightly compress your waist and snugly embrace the rest of your body and everything has to be just right to fit correctly and not cause pain or harm.

I would suggest using some scrap cloth for prototypes before going for the final product.
