ice release hook needed

Post by TNTBound »

so, im trying to come up with a way to have a hook available at first, then undo a string from it, push the hook into the recess of a box so it cant be used and then have to wait for ice to melt (preferably ice cubes, less conspicuous) to release the hook so it can be used again. preferably something i can make out of wood, but im having a tough time imagining how to build it in my head.

was thinking maybe when i push the hook in (spring loaded maybe?), a dowel will drop in and block the hook from popping out. then when some ice melts, a weight could be released, pulling the dowel out via a string? i think this might be too easy to defeat though.

im sure this would be super simple to do with a battery, and arduino and a small motor/servo, but i don't have the programing knowledge to make that work (that i would trust anyways).

i would like to be able to screw it into the headboard of my bed to hold it solid.

any ideas?

ok, think i came up with something that should work pretty good with enough fine tuning.

top view

the black L is the hook that will swing out

the red is the catch for the hook, enough angle on the hook end of the latch that the hook can slide over the latch when the ice is already loaded

the yellow/orange are springs. one will spring the hook out, one is to keep tension on the ice bag as the ice melts

the purple is an 0-ring that the ice bag sits against

the green is a spring to push down the lever once the ice is melted to release the hook

the blue is the ice bag and the loop on the catch with a spring in between

this will all be enclosed in a wooden box with waterproof liner and a locking latch on the top so its tamper proof

i think this should be pretty simple to make with some common materials and should be quite effective for what i need it to do.

BTW, this is the reason i need to come up with a specialized release mechanism.

http://www.latexcatfish.com/xcart/CF-BONV14274.html

i just ordered one of these in 1mm thick chlorinated latex with internal arm sleeves in dark blue!!! :D

unfortunately, i dont have anyone i can ask to put me in it, so i need to devise a way to use it myself.

im having them make it with the zipper able to open from the inside too, so the pull tab should be able to go all the way around the zipper, making for an easier pull with a string and hook.

now i have a couple weeks to make that release mechanism.

should be fun!

I have all ways thought that if you could set it up in a room right over your bed that a garage door opener setup could move the zipper up and down. You could a remote by your hand to open and close, and you could use some kind of plug timer to cut the power to the opener so that you could not use the remote till the power came back on. I know that one problem with the garage door opener idea is that they have fail safes built in so they do not shut the door on people or things so if they get to much resistance they stop or reverse. So not sure it would fully work out of the box, but all ways thought that it could be a good way to get your self zipped into the body bags and such.

actually, reading a story like that is what made me order one of these sleepsacks! im sure you have read it too, but here is the link to that awesome story.

im sure i could make a garage door opener work for that purpose, but not exactly possible with family and friends living in the house.

EDIT: stories like that make me wish i was a girl so i could experience that kind of un-ending vibrator torment!!!

i couldn't find anything to work for the L-shape piece like i wanted, so im going to build it out of some 1/8" thick x 1" wide steel angle. i'll cut it to the lengths i need, weld them into a box shape, then weld the two box pieces into an L-shape. that way it will be plenty strong once i drill the hole in it for the pivot bolt. then a simple bolt-on hook on the end of the L-bracket for the zipper pull-string. as for the catch, i have a piece of 1/4" steel flat bar that i can sculpt into the latch mechanism.

im not sure if im going to make the housing for everything out of plywood or 2x4's yet. as for the waterproofing, im going to use plasti-dip on the inside of the wooden box. its basically a rubberized coating that can be peeled of later if required. i have yet to source the springs, but the local hardware store should have them.

i just need my family to go to the casino for a night and i can get working on it.

ok, never got to working on the hook mechanism yet, but the good news is that the sleepsack shipped out finally!

im thinking of simplifying the mechanism to be able to use a gate latch and a box. if i make any progress on it, it'll be posted here.

i decided to try my new sleepsack without the mechanism i drew.

i took some non-mono filament ice fishing line (roughly 30-40lb test) and connected it to the zipper with a ring on the other end. then i had a padlock tied to a chain at the headboard to act as a hook for the ring. this actually worked pretty good! i could get my arms in, then pull up the zipper to my chin fairly easy. to pull it back down was tougher. with my arms in the sleeves, the collar just wanted to roll down  . what worked, was to use my hands and push the latex in the front towards my feet. this let the zipper be pulled straight and worked great! i did this test on friday when i got it in the mail.

fast forward to last night, i wanted to be locked in it for about 2 hours. i used the same setup, but i had to move the knot in the fishing line so i had more slack to put the padlock in the k-safe. i had to use pliers to undo the knot (this was my mistake), and now it would be much easier to do up the safe.

so i pull up the zipper with my arms in the sleeves, and it gets slightly stuck on the inner flap. i think, no big deal, i can just turn around and pull it back down a bit then back up. but when i tried to pull it down, i must have had more force on it than i thought, or maybe the string was weakened where i mover the knot, but the string connecting the padlock to the chain broke!!! oh crap! i thought to myself, i think i can get my arm out of the sleeve (not exactly the tightest fitting custom sleepsack up top :? , but it is comfortable :D ) since i was not all sweaty and the latex wasnt sticking to me yet. i squirmed and squirmed and luckily was able to get my left arm out of the sleeve (at this point i was glad they didnt go up higher!). then i got the zipper opened and i was free.

im going to get some paracord to use since it will be MUCH stronger, and hopefully wont have that issue again. but if it does happen, if i work up enough of a sweat so my skin slides across the latex, i think i could manage the same escape. its just that in-between where the latex is just sticking to you that you really are stuck!

as a punishment for not using strong enough pull cord, i tied myself in a tight spread eagle for the next 2 hours with a plug in me.

just figured i would post my experience. i REALLY dont recommend using one of these by yourself if there is no-one to get you out in an emergency. there are others in the house here, so i know i would not be stuck forever, just HIGHLY embarrassed!

i just got into it a while ago and set the ksafe for 2 hours with the padlock hook inside. after about 40 minutes, i was really sweaty from squirming inside of it (i LOVE being in this sleepsack!). at that point, i already came, so i decided to see if i could get out again without the hook. after a little bit, i freed my left arm from the sleeve and then my right arm and opened the zipper to let myself out for a nice shower and to clean the sleepsack.

so it appears that i can consistently free myself, even with my arms in the sleeves with a bit of work. this makes it feel much safer to use, but at the same time, im kinda disappointed that i CAN actually escape from it without needing to pull the zipper down to free my arms. :? (this is the problem with self bondage, you want to be stuck, but also need to be able to get out) if the sleeves were a couple inches higher up, or made with the same 1mm latex, i might not be able to get out without moving the zipper down.

just regular struggling is not enough to get free though, so it is still quite satisfying to be in! :D

one time though, i put myself in it with my arms not in the sleeves, and was able to lock a chain around my neck and to the zipper. this effectively held me captive in the latex sack until the keys were released from the ksafe. im thinking i might be able to get my arms in the sleeves like this, so then i will feel more helpless for the duration of the timer that releases the keys to the chain.

god, i feel like a damn escape artist at times!
