Kitchen Safe. Anyone else use one?

Post by tigerX »

https://www.thekitchensafe.com/

I bought one and use it every morning. I put all the keys in it, then set it for usually an hour. I then put my feet in cuffs like these here: https://www.copsplus.com/cts-thompson-9 ... ffs-nickel

These cuffs have three "drop bars" and are oversized. I added some leather liners so that they are not unnecessarily painful for long term wear.

The K-Safe is the perfect balance between keeping me from being able to use the keys but not so impenetrable that in an emergency it couldn't be broken into. I have enjoyed wearing foot cuffs since college. When one's partner isn't into it, this adds the "partner" bondage aspect. The fantasy of being locked up against my will.

Many members here have used one. If you use the search tool at the top right hand corner of the page, you'll find all of the threads/posts where it is mentioned.

Have fun.

Indeed. Me included. I use it to do chastity up to 10 days.I even have a dare where you can prolong this to a month or more by adding a few rules.

Understood. What's tragic is I did do a search for "K-Safe" but the message board script said it would discard the K- and only look for "Safe" which it found a ton of messages :)

There's nothing quite like being all locked up, and watching the countdown from 5-4-3....

Being a crazy cat and dog lady, I rarely get to use it for an extended period. I always had a key in a frozen bottle as a backup if something failed. Nice product.

I do notice that they sell replacement bottoms for that Kitchen Safe. Just in case you really, really need to get into it? I've used the key frozen in ice method myself.

Yes they do. In fact, they now sell 2 sizes (both fit the same lock). A medium and very large size. So that is very interesting indeed.

there are actually three sizes, a super small one (would be GREAT for holding just keys), a medium one and a big one. it works great, just make sure that you will be able to put in new batteries in the position you tie yourself, since it will stay locked if the batteries die.
For those that get it, no explanation is needed. For those that don't, no explanation is possible.

Oh, thats a good tip TNTBound. Something I would never have considered to go wrong. Its not so much the not being able to access the batterylit and slide it off, but more the: other batteries are far out of reach... Important detail.

Oh, I didn't know that there are replacements and different sizes now.
I have the medium one, both the bottom part has a crack, after I tried to bend the side open a bit to get the key
the material is a bit brittle, but that might be less of a problem with the small size.
I had already thought about 3d-printing the bottom part with quite thick walls.

Yeah, that's a bit of a flaw. With the original batch, you could actually lever the thing open without cracking it (just). The conversation I had with them went:
So having had a bit of a play with it, I've found what I think is a design flaw.

Opening the battery case cover exposes the top edge of the container, allowing one to get fingers in and pull it out far enough to clear the catch, and therefore open it. This wouldn't be possible if the battery case lid was on top or on a side that didn't have a catch. (Having four locking points rather than two would defeat pretty much any attempt to pull a side clear.)

You can get the lid back on again without too much effort as well.
The reply:
Thank you for the note. I’m sorry to hear that you were able to pry open the Kitchen Safe! I tried to do this and was able to reproduce the result; however, on my second attempt I accidentally cracked the acrylic container, so please be careful. I will be sure to address this weak point as I design future versions; thank you for the feedback.
I kinda hoped they'd move the battery compartment to the back (it's pretty empty back there), but instead they just made the catches longer, so you will crack it if you try that route. The other thing to do (which would also require moving or altering the battery case) would have been to have have added a lip to the lid that enclosed the top of the base. That would prevent the top edge from being levered out.

It might be helpful to add a reinforced lip around the top of the base to keep it together through levering attempts, e.g. with PCL (Instamorph/Polymorph), which sticks to acrylic quite well.

Yes, I had a similar idea, but around the lid, so that there's a groove where the rim of the bottom would slide in. That would remove any possibility to pry it open.
I didn't think about using polymorph, that's a good idea, I might try that...

I thought about that too, but the main problem is that the inner edge of base is exposed by removing the battery cover, i.e. the one place where you really need the lip is where there's nowhere to attach it, at least not without compromising access to the batteries. The placement of the battery case and cover really is the main flaw in the Kitchen Safe design.

Also, while PCL will stick nicely to the acrylic the base is made from(if it's hot enough), it doesn't stick to the plastic the lid is made out of.

I took a different approach to securing the thing, described here. This would be compatible with reinforcing the top of the base too.

I remember that thread, I saw the kitchensafe for the first time there... :D
I'm thinking about wrapping the bottom with fiber-fix. That should prevent the cracking issue and add a lot of safety together with your solution.
