They are all very robotic, and varying the speed affects their tone of voice. I can't use it for telling me stories, it doesn't sound right. :(

AT&T Natural voices sounds a little better, but you have to pay for those...unless you know where to look of course....

I think the voices in ReadPlease were based on the AT&T Natural Voices, or you can get them if you pay for the Pro Version. It was something like that, I can't remember

For anyone using mozilla firefox, a new addon is out for the latest version (2.0+), it can read massive long posts (longer that what ReadPlease can cope with):

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3552

Its kinda cool if you can cope with scratchy robot voices, I use it to listen to the true stories etc... while I check my emails and stuff...

Thanks for the post! I did not know that there was a text to speach built into XP either. Recently I had been looking online for a good text to speach. Some of the online demos were really fantastic. When I got them downloaded they were all robotic, and didn't match my expectations at all. Maybe I'm just to old to figure out how to get the best out of them.

I like to use http://www.fromtexttospeech.com/ to listen to fictional stories and even save them if they are interesting enough. Plenty of voices that read fairly well. Hate the way they pronounced hogtie as "hog-tea". That's why I always spell it as 2 words now.
