Here's my two cents$

As a web page designer, over the past ten years I've seen the defacto screen size grown from 640 to 800 to 1024. Most professionals; people who work extensively with graphics, use a larger format, but this is still uncommon. But of course in time the current standard will increase.

Keep in mind that most well designed web pages provide default scroll bars for computers with less real estate. And that no matter what your screen size is, an image is limited to about 72 dpi. Therfore, a 600 dpi wide image will always appear smaller on a higher count screen.

One of the reasons that I've purchased two new computers this year is that I'd grown tired of having to constanly use scroll bars to view pages.

My vote is for 1024x768. Only because at the present time it benifits the most people.

That's the cat's opinion, and I'm stick'in with it!

I don't mind scrolling sideways for the image but it becomes a pain to read the posts when all the posts become formatted to the width of the image. The free form html may span the entire width of the message area for every post, not just the one with the wide image. This requires you to scroll left/right to read every line of text. This might be something a table for the image might fix by keeping the text area at the lower width?

I believe the image width max of 800 would be OK for me at 1024x768. Browser frame, Author area, and trimmings leaves almost exactly 800 pixels in the Message area. I am using Seamonkey under Linux. My browser currently occupies 1022x712 pixels on screen.

Are there any PDA or iPhone users that could weigh in? I don't have one myself but these would be the most affected,

Update to my screen resolution...

My venerable old Samsung 17" LCD monitor just died - yup, the one that I have been running at 1280x1024 for seven years.

So I went out and bought a Samsung 24" LCD, and now I'm at 1920x1200. That's a heck of a lot of real estate. And Bound Anna looks damn nice!

If this one lasts as long as the old one, I'll be buying a new monitor in 2016.

This may be a record. A 6 year old poll being resurrected.
