How do I fix a ding? (and some other repair questions)

Chastity is perhaps the ultimate in long term selfbondage.

How do I fix a ding? (and some other repair questions)

Post by Grindar »

I have 3 devices and I think I've ruined them all. I'm hoping someone can help me.

I have one of these: (1) http://www.extremerestraints.com/chasti ... _3939.html
One of these: (2) http://www.extremerestraints.com/chasti ... _2260.html
And finally, one of these: (3) http://www.extremerestraints.com/chasti ... _4731.html

Problems:
Number one got some scratches and we found out the metal underneath is not Chrome but instead something that causes me rashes. We tried using clear nail polish and it kind of worked but it gets scratched very easily.

Number 3 got a ding on it. It's a small spot that is slightly abrasive. I tried buffing it out with a dremel and a cotton tip. That didn't do anything. Then I used a sanding wheel and got the burr taken care of but can't get the area really smooth again.

Number 2 didn't fit well and the hinged ring caused me all kinds of grief as far as bruises and pinching. I used some JBWeld to fill in the gaps and glue the ring together. I also used some to make the ring fit tighter so my balls don't keep falling out. But now what?

Questions:

1) I tried covering some of the dings and scratches with clear nail polish. The leaves the surface kind of tacky and doesn't feel right. Is there a specific brand of nail polish anyone knows of to give that smooth metal feel? Would Acrylic paint work as a covering? Any other suggestions to treat imperfections so I can wear it for a longer period of time? (my goal is no longer than a week. My wife wants to shoot for a month.)

2) JBWeld works well for making the rings fit better in the hole in the cage. My balls don't fall out at all. Am I going to die if i have the JBWeld against my skin? See question 1 for covering it. (I'll get some pictures if anyone wants to see what I did.)

3) Since all of these devices are not CBX000 compatible, I haven't been able to get any 'extra secure' accessories. I found this though: http://www.amazon.com/InstaMorph-Moldab ... le+plastic and recommend it. I haven't made anything permanent yet but it's fun stuff and when it's hardened, it's solid.
Anyone know how I could home make some extra security for the devices? Which anti-pullout model works the best?

For the record, my father was an accountant and my mother was a nurse. I never even used a tool until I was in my late 20s. I'm not good working with my hands. I'm hoping I haven't ruined all 3 devices.

Thanks for any help or advice.

Getting things smooth is an art. If the item has a hard plating over a softer metal the edge of the plating can become sharp. Your nail polish was a good idea but not permanent. The rash is most likely from the base metal being copper, brass or some alloy. Try using finer sandpaper or rubbing/polishing compound on the scratches. Have you tried the stuff at the hardware store that you dip tools into to make rubberized handles? It is thicker that the nail polish and may be more durable.
Good luck.

Getting rid of tool marks in general can be a long process, but the basic idea is sanding with finer and finer grid, and then using metal polish to get that real smooth surface.

I don't have a lot to offer on the repair front -- obviously some kind of coating sounds like a plan. Powder coat it perhaps?

But I note that all the devices XR have on their site are cheap Chinese devices, and it seems "stainless steel" is Chinese for "plated brass". All three of the devices you show can be found here:
  1. http://spicesforlove.com/index.php?main ... cts_id=188 $54.99
  2. http://spicesforlove.com/index.php?main ... cts_id=187 $56.99
  3. http://spicesforlove.com/index.php?main ... cts_id=841 $59.99
(plus $10 for the shipping.)

I note there's a black version of your number 3 device http://spicesforlove.com/index.php?main ... cts_id=874 ... it looks like a powder coat but it's hard to be sure from the pics.

You should be getting the same bad feeling from eXtreme Restraints. Those items aren't just similar, they come from the same factory. To be fair, that's only true of a minority of XR's stuff. But the reality is that a lot of gear is made in China, even if sold by Western retailers. Based in the US is not a guarantee of quality. It's just a guarantee of higher prices.
