DIY fiddle
DIY fiddle
Hi, some time ago I decided to build a steel fiddle, maybe some of you have already seen it in a different forum, but I also wanted to share it here:
All parts are lasercut and then welded together, the total cost was about 100€. If you are interested, I could upload the DXF drawings so you can get your own parts cut.

Re: DIY fiddle
Welcome to the forum! That is a great looking fiddle.
Please do. I would also be interested in adding the files needed to the main website, with your permission. If you are interested, I could upload the DXF drawings so you can get your own parts cut.

Re: DIY fiddle
Thx, of course you can add it to your website. The files are available in four different sizes:
Size S: http://fschnecke.bplaced.net/dxf_g/std/s.dxf
Size M: http://fschnecke.bplaced.net/dxf_g/std/m.dxf
Size L: http://fschnecke.bplaced.net/dxf_g/std/l.dxf
Size XL: http://fschnecke.bplaced.net/dxf_g/std/xl.dxf
There are two parts in the DXF. You need two of the small parts and three of the large parts:
Just weld everything together, add bolts and a lock and have fun

This is such an amazing item
Just a question. When I click on the size M link, I get to sort of a page with all the letters and all (have no Idea how to describe it).
Shouldn't it be a file?
Or can I just copy and paste it into word or whatever and save the file that way?
I want to have it in a file that I can give to someone with a laser, so they can just import it into their computer and start cutting

you are the only one who knows exactly what you like
Re: DIY fiddle
If your browser doesn't download the file, try right-clicking the link and use "save link as" or "save target as".
Re: DIY fiddle
I tried to save the link as M.dxf
It's a 387kb file. Is this correct?

Re: DIY fiddle
And it's best to use 5mm thick stainless steel, right?

Re: DIY fiddle
Thats right, the file is only ~387 Kb. I used 5mm steel because its cheap and easy to weld, but of course you can also use stainless steel or aluminium. The fiddle is made of 5 layers of steel, so 5mm material thickness will result in a total thickness of 25mm.

That's a really great piece of work. A real work of art as well as a piece of bondage kit. Are the various layers riveted together?

Re: DIY fiddle
i have to wounder if this could also be done with a 3D printer as well?
Re: DIY fiddle
It should be possible to 3d print the parts, but I think its going to be very expensive.
I welded them toghether, I like the additional security
