I'm being lazy and hoping someone can answer the question rather than me spending ages looking - I have tasks to complete before My Lady gets home
is there a simple way to make a "ratchet" either from rope or very simple items. I'm giving a demo on predicament bondage at a party next week and I like to keep things simple, not use complicated methods, so anyone can do what I demonstrate.
The scenario I am after is to have the subject tied, not important exactly how all this fits together, but that if they move, a rope tightens. I can use the sort of rope ratchet that the sailors use, a pair of serrated "cams" that close on the rope, preventing it returning, but allowing free movement in the other direction, but this means getting a piece of specialist kit. A weight or bungee cord would provide the "pull" against which the subject must resist, to prevent the rope being tightened.
I have the idea there is something using a couple of metal rings, but even this requires the rings to be available, though I probably have some if that's the only way (and someone can tell me how to set it up).

Re: ratchet knot
The bottom rope loop, one goes to a counter weight (a weight is required )
and the other goes to the victim... aaa. volunteer...
Altho, and it is a thought... the volunteer could be connected to the top rope,
weight to one and secure point on the other...
I did read a story abut a girl that used ratching seat belts.
They would take up the slack and provided some tension, and would only release once the belt was fully retracted...
All advice is checked, re-checked and verified to be questionable...
Don't ask, we both wont understand the answer...

Re: ratchet knot
That's the one ! Thanks.
Will look for suitable rings and try it out. I'll use either a weight or a bungee cord, depends on what anchors etc are available at the party.

That looks the same as "ring device". I first learned about that from this very site, in the basics section

Re: ratchet knot
I think that a "tautline hitch" is what you need.

Very nice knot, I use it for a lot of purposes.
