Step one. Cover your head in gaffer tape.

(Sorry about the focus... bit difficult when you don't have your glasses and everything is blurred anyway!)
I really recommend that you get a friend to help with this, it would be a lot simpler and not require having double jointed elbows.
Step two. Remove gaffer tape hood in one go.

Step three. Chop into flat pieces

Because the collar part of the hood is going to be boned, the lower half is also chopped vertically.
Step four. Make paper patterns.

Step five. Make a miracle happen
Lots of cutting, sewing, swearing etc. (sorry no pictures)
Two attempts at the nose were required (and still not quite right)
Boning... You'd have thought I would have learned after the Victorian costume.

This photo shows the inside of the finished hood with the collar boning.
Step six. Enjoy.

nice work.
here's hoping the result felt like the amount of work put in was worth it.

You bet that's nice work!
(don't fret about the boning work, it looks good, and even for me, boning a collar like that is a cuss-worthy job... )

I get great pleasure in conceiving a solution to a problem and then implementing it. I've actually missed the creative sewing since the Victorian costume.ponylady wrote:here's hoping the result felt like the amount of work put in was worth it.
This went sort of OK, but I would have preferred if the bone case stitching had been parallel to and equally spaced from the panel join stitching.bound_jenny wrote:(don't fret about the boning work, it looks good, and even for me, boning a collar like that is a cuss-worthy job... )
