Very nice. I like the really clean look of the design with the "tucked under" strap!
How may I serve you? *Curtsey*

Thanks.
It took a bit of drawing and cardboard models, but I think this is a good solution to the design.

I have cut the leather for the next cuff. Once they are both ready, it is time for user evaluation.
... the fun part!

I got the other one made yesterday.

Lady C was delighted, and also considers it nice work.

As soon as we get Mother in Law sent back home, it is testing time.

A couple more pics:

The strap is tucked through and fixed with stitches .

From the front:

And from the back:

The backside is cut roughly to size and glued on.
It doesn’t fit perfectly, but that is taken care of with the small plane.
Back glued on

Then a channel is gouged, and the Wartenberg-wheel-like thing is used to make marks for uniform stitches in the channel.
In leather goods that see heavy use, placing the stiches in the channel protects them from wear.

Then you just grab the needles and the awl, and sew it.

The hoof-like tool is for bevelling the edges. After bevelling I sand the edges smooth and burnish them.

Your leather tools look like surgical instruments. Awesome. The finished products look better than what is commercially available.

And I wanted to let you know that this thread has re-ignited my leatherworking interest, My 16x16 space above my shop is still in the works, as a leather/rubber/ finish metalworking area. Downstairs is for welding/ cutting/ grinding, plus regular boring workshop stuff.

I hope to gain a quarter of the skills you show in your work.

Merry Christmas to those who celebrate the holiday!

Thanks.

Happy to have fired you up again.
:D

I think the main reason handmade often looks so damn good is "time”.
There is no chance that you can compete with modern machining when it comes to efficiency, speed and reproducibility, but you can put the time into the details.

Burnishing edges on a commercial product is often done with “edge paint”. It looks good in a hurry, but compared to bevelling, sanding and rubbing until shiny, it will fall short.
And when it is done for fun, it is OK to train and experiment. Leather scraps and thread is cheap and I often sew them together in weird shapes before throwing them away, just for the fun and training.
When there is no need for a black bottom line in accounting, it is OK to fail or do something willfully stupid.
..... accepting that failure is a part of learning is valuable IMHO.

(.... things ended up being a bit philosophical there. I'll test the cuffs now)
