I've not done the key retrieval scenario for years. So easy to do, all you need is a chain and padlock with a key. Hide the key, thread the chain through your clothes, then around a tree and padlock the ends together. Now all you have to do is retrieve the key.

Good luck with your scenario. Don't forget weeds and dead leaves can cover it, so you may need to place it near a distinctive tree.
